I’ve been planning on getting a relatively cheap lens for my Canon XS for along time. I love photography and tend to take pictures of flowers, and rocks, and branches on trees often, close up shots. I can’t decide what lens to get, a telephoto, zoom, or macro. I need imput from as many professional photographers as I can, or photographers in general. Photography is my passion, and I cant decide!

If this is going to be your second lens, have a look at 70-300mm zoo telephoto lens.If you go for it , pick up a tripod alongside.

its a 2X Tele-Converter i am new to this so i am not sure i was told that it attches to the end of the lens also on the side of the filter it saysce-advance-lazer i.r.-day and night-0.0 lux-af-digital-58mm this came with the camera which is a cannon eos 3000n (this was a gift ) i hope this helps

You need to give us a lot more information … brand of zoom lens, brand of 2.0x telephoto lens and what you mean by a day and night filter.
The only filter you NEED is a UV to protect your lenses front element.
Is this the lens you are talking about?

I have a telephoto lens, but don’t like that I have to stand so far away to focus on suject, can I get the same photos with a macro lens? Will I be able to blur out the background like I can with the large telephoto?

No.
Macro is when you shoot at a subject to image ratio of from 1:1 to 1:2.
While there are long lenses that are marco, they are also able to shoot at the same 1:1 to 1:2 ratios.
What you are talking about is just shooting “close up” not macro.
There are many terms in photography which are starting to be incorrectly used or misused that make communicating photographer to photographer difficult. One of the MOST misused it the term edit. Editing is sorting … the good from the bad. Now anyone with less than about ten years experience in photography seems to think it means photo manipulation. Even some of the leaders in post production have now started calling that editing.
